2011 MAC machines use first generation Thunderbolt ports. From time to time these might reject connection with our (and not only) devices.

If you experience this issue, please try the following steps:

  1. Remove the driver
  2. Disconnect the Thunderbolt cable from the computer
  3. Power off the computer
  4. Start the computer and plug the Thunderbolt cable in
  5. Re-install the driver
  6. After installing the driver, don’t disconnect the unit and don’t restart the computer
  7. Check if the device is present in audio midi settings and control panel

This workaround has solved the issue for some of our users, if you’re still having troubles getting your 2011 MAC machine to operate with our device(s) get in touch with our Tech Support crew.

Marius Costache, our first Romanian endorser, found everything he wished for in the Orion 32+

I was looking for a really good sounding converter with plenty of channels to upgrade my project studio.
I found the Antelope Orion32+ to be one of the the only one with enough inputs for my needs in such a small footprint.
I usually track alternative and rock music, sometimes with the whole band playing together live in the studio so recording 24+ tracks simultaneously is pretty usual here.

Marius-Costache-2
The input count easily accommodates my current external analog preamps but I also have plenty line inputs left for future additions and i can also leave some of my pedals connected as external fx for Cubase and i can alter what’s being sent to them using the onboard dsp eqs and compressors with very little latency and no cpu cost.
The stereo imaging is great and the overall sound is really natural, especially the highs, making everything easier to mix.
Being just 1U, it’s easy to carry it for the occasional live gig recording or sending a lot of different tracks to the FOH when playing live with my experimental band Environments.

Award-Winning Producer, DJ, and Musician Zedd Keeps the Hits Coming with Antelope Audio

Antelope Audio’s Orion Studio Interface Is the Front End of Choice for Discerning Creator in His New Home Studio

Los Angeles, Calif., September 19th, 2016 — Though producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist Zedd only began producing electronic music in 2009, his music quickly became a defining sound of contemporary electronic pop thanks to megahits likes 2012’s “Clarity” and 2015’s “I Want You to Know.” Having long used Antelope Audio clocking and conversion in his work, Zedd and his engineer had no trouble deciding on the powerful and versatile Orion Studio when they decamped their operation to Zedd’s home. Since the studio’s completion, Antelope Audio’s single-rack-space USB+ Thunderbolt interface has delivered everything Zedd needs to continue crafting the synth-heavy pop masterpieces for which he is renowned.

Zedd-1

A Home Studio That’s Out of This World

The decision to build a home studio was triggered by an interruption at Zedd’s previous base of operations. “Our studio at Interscope was being renovated, so after bouncing around to different studios for a while we ended up building a brand new studio at Zedd’s house,” says Zedd’s engineer Ryan Shanahan. “We had been using the original Antelope Audio Orion since the second half of the production of Clarity and we used it for all of True Colors, so stepping into an Orion Studio was a no brainer.” Zedd and Shanahan envisioned the new studio as a space that would be ready to go as a creative workstation at all times. That meant taking advantage of the full 12 inputs offered on the Orion Studio. “His main keyboards are patched right into the 8 inputs on the back,” Shanahan explains. “We have one of the front inputs set up with a vocal chain and we leave the other 3 open to patch in anything else that Zedd might want to use.”

Clear as the Night Sky

The Orion Studio’s 12 preamps give Shanahan the exact sound he wants for capturing the high-fidelity sheen of Zedd’s keys. “The preamps are extremely clean and transparent, which is great for any source, especially the keyboards which constitute the bulk of our tracking,” he says. “I have digital emulations that I can always use with guitars or anything like that if I decide I want to add coloration later. I’m happy getting the cleanest possible signal when recording.” The high-quality monitor outputs also provide the perfect signal path to Zedd’s monitor controller.

Shanahan uses the versatile routing afforded by the Orion Studio’s software to route incoming audio for monitoring just like he would on a console. “When we’re working on a console we always monitor our input signals directly rather than monitoring back from the DAW so we don’t have latency,” he says. “With the Orion Studio software, I can set it up the same way by routing my inputs directly to the internal mixer and out to our monitoring controller. That not only ensures latency-free monitoring, but also allows Zedd to work out ideas on the piano anytime without even having to open up a session in the DAW.”

Zedd-2

Effects That Open Up New Worlds

Shanahan has also taken advantage of some of the FPGA effects offered on the Orion Studio during tracking. Unlike processor-based plug-ins, FPGA technology provides true hardware modeling with near-zero latency. “The Pultec and guitar cabinet emulations sounds really good, and I often use the built-in standard EQ and compressor to filter unwanted lows and glue things together a bit on the way in,” he says. “It’s really exciting that they keep releasing new FPGA models of classic hardware, I haven’t even had the chance to try out everything in Vintage Pack 2.0 yet!”

A Starring Role for Clocking

Above all, the Orion Studio provides industry-leading conversion thanks to Antelope Audio’s renowned fourth generation Acoustically Focused Clocking jitter management algorithm and oven-controlled crystal oscillator. “I’ve always loved how the highs sound with Antelope clocking,” Shanahan says. “I feel like I’m getting more clarity in the frequency spectrum. The depth of the stereo image is very accurate and the transients are very sharp, so I’m really hearing what’s there.” This allows Zedd and Shanahan to push signals into clipping territory without fear of sacrificing quality. “We can hear how much we’re clipping and when it goes from musical to ugly. It’s gives a true picture of what we’re working with.”

First Contact

“The Orion Studio is the perfect front end for Zedd’s workflow,” says Shanahan. “It’s really important to have a great converter, a great clock, and a great set of speakers. You can really hear the difference between Antelope Audio interfaces and others on the market.”

We are very excited to demonstrate these innovations first hand at this year’s NAMM Show.”

Check out the features

ORION32 HD – The King of Connectivity

With HDX, USB3, MADI, and ADAT, and S/PDIF connectivity and 32-in/32-out analog input via DB25, the Orion32 HD has all the connectivity you need for a wide variety of configurations in studios of all sizes. The Orion32 HD’s versatile routing and mixing software console for Mac and Windows further increases the possibilities, now featuring both Antelope’s classic color-coded routing matrix and an alternate matrix-style view to make routing easy and intuitive. It also features movable and resizable panels to help make the best use of your desktop real estate in multiscreen setups or when working on scoring or other applications that require quickly jumping between applications and windows.

Galactic Sound

The Orion32 HD delivers incredibly clear, accurate conversion thanks to Antelope’s best-in-class 64-BIT Acoustically Focused Clocking (AFC) jitter management technology. A long time innovator in the field, the Orion32 HD, like the OCX HD and Trinity master clock before it, achieves depth and detail in stereo imaging and transient accuracy that ensures the most precise audio capture and playback.

Two Word Clock or Loopsync Outs allow the Orion to serve as the centerpiece of your recording setup, or take your sound even further by using the Orion’s 10M/10MX Clock Inputs to connect Antelope Audio’s famous 10M or 10MX atomic clocks for unparalleled sonic perfection. The Orion32 HD also features mastering-grade monitor output borrowed from Antelope’s popular Pure2 Mastering Converter to ensure signal integrity in the analog domain.

Compact Vintage

Antelope has been revolutionizing audio processing with its comprehensive suite of FPGA effects, providing hardware models of some of the most desirable vintage effects with near-zero latency. Antelope’s library of free FPGA effects is constantly growing and already includes a deep collection of equalizers, compressors, and guitar amplifier models based on analog gear used on countless hit records. Antelope’s fast FPGA processing, which measures only 2 samples of audio latency, helps these effects feel and behave just like the hardware they are based on, and also allows users to setup multiple near-zero latency monitor mixes right within the Orion32 HD’s mixer. For a list of available effects, please visit this link.

Silent Hero

Designed for efficiency, the Orion32 HD has no need for an internal fan, keeping your studio is free of noise pollution without requiring expensive isolation racks or a standalone machine room. The Orion32 HD also only requires a single rack space to deliver its dizzying 64 channels of I/O, making it perfect for space-conscious home and project studios as well as gear-saturated professional studios.

Orion Studio, one of our best-sellers, got some rad feedback from MusicPlayers.com in a recent piece on USB & Thunderbolt Audio Interfaces. Compared to several devices in its category the Orion Studio topped the Sound & Features criteria with maximum scores in both.

“If we had to give the nod to any one interface in particular for its audio quality, we have to tip our hats again to the Antelope Orion Studio… We noticed a real difference in the “air up there”—the Orion studio had a brighter and more open sounding top end, which was particularly noticeable on our cymbals.

Besides sounding the best according to the magazine and being praised for its expansive connectivity options, Orion Studio also was highly-acclaimed for its convenient software control.

“If we were to evaluate the usability of each audio interface based on software alone, then the Orion Studio would be our hands-down favorite of the bunch.”
